De La Salle University opens exhibit by Architect Wili Fernandez

The Museum at De La Salle University in cooperation with the family, friends, relatives , industry practitioners, educators and the president of De La Salle University opened the exhibit entitled ” Art and Space” : A Collection of Design Concepts by Architect Wili Fernandez . The event was opened yesterday April 22, 2013 .

The Museum

This is the first major exhibit for the Academic Year 2013 to 2014 and it pays homage to its donor on the occasion of his 15th death anniversary .

Family :  Architect Wili Fernandez is the husband of Ms. Doreen Gamboa -Fernandez a well-known Philippine culture, creative writing, and communication arts personality .

Ms. Doreen is also a respected academician, writer, and researcher  in her ivory tower. Despite her privileged lineage and affluent lifestyle, she was a conscientious worker, not allowing her failing health to disrupt the normalcy of her life. She was one of the founders of the Worldwide People Power Foundation, the forerunner of today’s Eggie Apostol Foundation.

A passionate lover of jazz and Gershwin, Ms. Doreen met her interior designer and architect husband Wili Fernandez at a jazz joint called Café Indonesia in the 1950s and married him in 1958. ( Architect Wili would pass away in 1998).

Memorabilias: Architect Wili works includes drawings and renderings in black in white and in full color, the collection comes from his personal collection and his former office, the Wili Fernandez and Associates Incorporated.

World Class : Mr. Wili Fernandez was an acclaimed world-class interior designer . He is one of the original founding members of the Philippine Institute of Interior Design.  He also had several commission interior designs project with the former first lady Mrs. Imelda R. Marcos.

Museum Hours:

On-site parking is subject to availability. Viewing hours are from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 nn on Saturdays.

Guided tour may be provided depending on the availability of the curator and docents. To arrange for a guided tour, please call 524-4611 local 368 and look for Ms. May Viaje.

The Museum welcomes groups. Guided tour will be conducted for a minimum group size of 10 and a maximum of 80 persons on a first-come-first-served basis. Reservation must be made by phone and personal visit of the coordinator of the group at least two weeks in advance to fill up the booking form and discuss with him/her the guidelines. We advise that the coordinator of the group will also buy tickets during his/her visit.

Guideline for Visitors

• Surrender to the guard at the entrance counter bags, umbrellas, and large packages. Bring in only your valuables. You may bring in pencil and paper if necessary. Pens are not allowed inside the galleries.
• Please observe silence at all times.
• Eating and drinking, including chewing of gum, are not allowed inside the museum.
• Refrain from touching the artworks, walls, and glass panels.
• Photography and electronic recording of any kind are not permitted anywhere in the galleries.
• The use of mobile phone is not allowed.
• If visiting in groups, please do not crowd around an artwork. Keep a moderate amount of distance while viewing the works.
• Only a maximum of 80 persons are allowed inside The Museum at any time. You may only be allowed to enter only when some of the audience have taken leave of the premises. Kindly wait for your turn.
• Should any of the museum guards call your attention, kindly follow the instruction.
